Cambodia launches Vietnamese cultural festival

Traditional arts and culture contribute to peace and stability, said Cambodia Minister of Culture and Fine Arts Phoeurng Sackona in a keynote address launching Vietnamese Cultural Week in Phnom Penh.

Arts and culture provide safe outlets for peaceful self-expression and socialization between the two nations youths and are among the most powerful tools to mitigate against conflict and bind nations together.
The Arts and Culture Week running August 26-30 will target youth with the goal of reviving Cambodian and Vietnamese arts and culture, he said, while promoting social integration, peace, and stability.

On the opening evening, artists from Ho Chi Minh City presented special art performances featuring the culture and music of three regions – northern, central and southern Vietnam.
During the five-day event, a wide variety of art exhibitions, cultural exchanges and sightseeing tours of famous destinations symbolizing solidarity between the two nations in Phnom Penh and Siem Reap City are planned.
Among the many distinguished guests in attendance at the opening ceremony were Vietnam Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Dang Thi Bich Lien, Members of the Vietnam Diplomatic Corps in Cambodia along many prominent Vietnamese business and community leaders.
