Con Dao among world’s spring secret islands to escape to in 2019

Dreaming of escaping to an island this spring, from Con Dao in Vietnam to Isla Holbox in Mexico, where you can enjoy the sun away from the tourist trails.

Con Dao in Vietnam has been named among nine dreamy spring secret islands to escape to in 2019, according to a list released by Vogue, a fashion and lifestyle magazine covering many topics including fashion, beauty, culture, living, and runway.

Off the coast of Ho Chi Minh City, Con Dao is an archipelago of sixteen islands, each one more beautiful than the last. Preserving the pure nature of the islands, there are only a dozen high-end hotels (including Aman and Six Senses) built on the coast. Another asset that this archipelago offers is its national park with an intact ecosystem.
Sao Tome and Principe tops the list, followed by Isla Holbox, Con Dao, Tuvalu, Kiribati, Yaeyama Islands, Lombok, Nosy Iranja, Andaman Islands.
Earlier, Con Dao Islands have been named one of the most beautiful beaches in the world for its golden sand, crystal-clear water, and lush green plant life—it is no surprise the region attracts millions of tourists every year.
With the likes of Danang, Nha Trang, and Mui Ne now packed with tourists, Dat Tham Beach, protected by Con Dao National Park, is one of the few undeveloped stretches of sand left in Vietnam, says the Independent, a UK-based newspaper.
Getting there requires some effort, with visitors clocking-in at the park office before beginning a four-mile hike to the beach. Once you reach the shore, however, you are met with a beautiful (and most likely completely secluded) crescent-shaped bay.
Con Dao Islands welcomed more than 240,000 tourists in 2017, up 46% from 2016. This included more than 31,000 foreign tourists. The beautiful islands earned over VND1.1 trillion (US$51.3 million) from tourism, increasing 45% on-year, according to the Con Dao People’s Committee.
