Conference focus on care for the Elderly
On the morning of March 1st, Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam instructed authorities and localities to provide better care to the aged while chairing a National Committee on Aging conference in Ha Noi
Specifically, Deputy PM Dam assigned the Ministry of Labour, War Invalids and Social Affairs to exert more efforts when it came to carrying out the National Plan of Action on Older Persons and asked the Ministry of Health to increase health check-ups and treatment for older citizens.
According to the national committee, many policies have helped raise old people's living standards. All people aged 80 and above, as well as those belonging to poor households, ethnic groups and disadvantaged regions, receive monthly social allowances and free health insurance cards.
The Viet Nam Association of the Elderly has also partnered with the health ministry to provide health check-ups and treatment to more than 1.5 million elderly people with eye-related diseases.
Participants at the event also pointed out several difficulties in providing care for the elderly, the primary one being the remote nature of many border and island areas.
