Samsung Electronics Vietnam (Samsung) in collaboration with the ministries of Industry and Trade and Planning & Investment held the 3rd workshop and exhibition on support industry, themed "Connecting Vietnamese Enterprises with Global Supply Chain", in Hanoi on June 21.
The workshop aims to continue seeking component vendors for Samsung as well as discussing measures to improve the competitiveness of Vietnamese hi-tech component manufacturing enterprises.
The workshop and exhibition attracted over 400 people, including representatives from governmental authorities and over 250 Vietnamese companies. The event also drew significant attention for the display area of 22 Samsung’s tier-1 vendors in Vietnam and showcases of 7 Vietnamese enterprises which outstandingly completed the pilot consulting phase.
The workshop and exhibition discussed government strategy and solutions to develop the support industry - a key factor to quickly and sustainably develop Vietnam’s major industries.
Addressing the event, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Cam Tu said that the Samsung's valuable efforts in close cooperation with the Vietnamese Government has reached positive results. The number of tier-1 Vietnamese vendors joining Samsung’s supply chain has tripled from 4 to 12 in 2015, he said.
Following previous successes, this year's workshop and exhibition was organised to announce more opportunities for Vietnamese enterprises to exchange experiences in an effort to improve competitiveness in component manufacturing.
Deputy Minister Tu stressed that Vietnamese enterprises should take the opportunity to join the global supply chain by connecting with FDI businesses operating in Vietnam such as Samsung.
The report revealed at the workshop pointed out that currently, there are 178 Vietnamese enterprises supplying Samsung as tier-2 vendors, taking the total number of Vietnamese enterprises joining Samsung’s supply chain to 190.
Among them are 6 local enterprises which are tier-1 vendors along with 155 tier-2 vendors supplying Samsung Electronics Vietnam Thai Nguyen. For the Samsung Electronic HCM City project, there are 6 tier-1 vendors and 23 tier-2 vendors.
During the event, Vietnam enterprises was introduced with the policies of Samsung in finding suppliers, learning experience from outstanding companies that have received the Samsung's support.
The capacity building programme for Vietnam suppliers implemented by the Samsung since September 2015, has confirmed the group's strong commitment to increase its localization rate and joining Samsung’s supply chain of local enterprises.
“We found that Vietnamese enterprises really have the potential and capability. In the future, Samsung will continue to cooperate with the Vietnamese government to conduct more counselling sessions and training courses to improve the capability of local enterprises,” President of Samsung Complex Vietnam Han Myoungsup said.
President Han Myoungsup expressed that they were hopeful of offering more opportunities for enterprises to join their supply chain, and help Samsung to enhance global competitiveness as well as consolidate our long-term development in Vietnam.
The President of Samsung Complex Vietnam stressed that any business that meets Samsung’s criteria in quality-due delivery-price has the opportunity to become Samsung’s vendor.
Han Myoungsup also required Vietnamese enterprises to pay more attention to developing technical human resources and product quality management to meet the criteria of a global supplier. This is also a part of Samsung’s counselling programme for potential enterprises.
With two factories in provinces of Bac Ninh (SEV) and Thai Nguyen (SEVT), along with the Samsung Electronics complex in HCM City that was officially put into operation in the 2nd quarter of this year, Samsung will not only turn Vietnam into the group's entrenched televisions and consumer electronics devices producer, but also contribute to open more opportunities for local support industry enterprises involved in the global supply chain of Samsung.
