A flag-raising ceremony for the fifth Asian Beach Games (ABG5-2016) was organised in Pham Van Dong park, central Da Nang city, on September 22.

The ABG5-2016 is scheduled to take place from September 24 to October 3 in Da Nang with 14 sports (including 22 categories) and 172 sets of medals. The Games will draw the participation of about 6,500 athletes, coaches and officials from 42 delegations of Asian countries and territories.
At present, Da Nang is ready for the ABG5-2016, said Dang Viet Dung, Vice Chairman of the Da Nang city People’s Committee.
According to the organising committees, all subcommittees are in a hurry to complete tasks and the city’s Department of Information prepared all necessary facilities to ensure smooth communication during the games.
The protocol subcommittee recruited and trained 1,530 volunteers and arranged accommodations for officials and athletes.
The municipal Department of Tourism will hold seventeen supporting events for officials and athletes to enjoy during the games.
The opening ceremony will take place at 20:00 on September 24.
The ABG 5 has 14 sports with 22 events. Vietnam competes in all 14 sports and aims for one of leading places on the medal table.
Most of competitions will be held at Bien Dong Park (3x3 basketball, soccer, Kabaddi, bodybuilding, Muay, traditional martial arts, wrestling, sambo, Ju-Jitsu, Kurash, Vovinam, Pencak Silat, marathon swimming, rowing).
While volleyball, handball and sepaktakraw events will take place on My Khe beach, athletics events will be organised at Son Thuy beach. Athletes will compete in woodball and petanque events at the intersection of Pham Van Dong and Vo Nguyen Giap streets.
Though the opening ceremony of the ABG5 will take place on September 24, the Muay Thai completion started on September 21.
Male athletes will compete in 10 divisions ranging from 45 to 81 kg while female athletes will vie for medals in six categories from 45 to 63.5 kg. Muay Thai martial artists will compete for 16 sets of medals from September 21-26 at Bach Dang Beach Park.
