According to the municipal Department of Tourism, the city expects nearly 143,000 tourists for the New Year 2018 holiday, up 17.9 percent over the same time last year, including 81,530 foreign visitors, a rise of 16.2 percent year on year.
In the Christmas and New Year 2018 holiday this year, several new air routes were launched to connect the city and Incheon, Busan and Daegu cities of South Korea, Hong Kong (China) and Osaka in Japan.
The department will host a ceremony to welcome the first flight of 2018 at Da Nang International Airport. In the Christmas and New Year 2018 holiday this year, four tourist ships are scheduled to dock in Cat Tien Sa port of Da Nang. The department will also welcome the first cruise visiting the city on New Year’s Day.
Vice Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Ho Ky Minh said the city hopes to forge tourism links with the central and Central Highland regions, prioritizing sea-based tourism, MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions) tourism, culture-history tourism, and ecological tourism. It will regularly host tourism, sport, culture, and festival events at national, regional and international levels to promote Da Nang as a friendly destination, he added.
Da Nang hopes to welcome nine million visitors by 2020, with 30% being international holidaymakers, and rake in VND31.5 trillion (US$1.38 billion) in revenue.
In the fourth quarter of 2017, the city has been completing the amendments to a master plan on tourism development by 2025, with a vision toward 2030, and a project on preferential policies to develop Thua Thien Hue-Da Nang-Quang Nam tourism, and promote tourism in key markets in Asia.
Da Nang is famous for its beautiful destinations, especially beaches. Visitors can admire the natural wonders of Ba Na Hills, explore the jungle in Son Tra Peninsula, and pray at Linh Ung Pagoda with Vietnam’s highest Bodhisattva Statue at 67 meters. Last year, Da Nang was honored last year as “Asia’s Leading Festival and Event Destination” at the World Travel Awards Asia & Australasia Gala Ceremony.
