A day of sanitation workers: Staying in sewer to keep Hanoi clean

Without sanitation workers, urban green and clean environment would not be achieved.

Without sanitation workers, urban green and clean environment would not be achieved.  Mr. Cao Van Chinh, a worker of Mechanic Group No.8 - Mechanical Installation and Construction Enterprise- Hanoi Sewerage & Drainage Co.Ltd, is  among the employees who do this hard, silent but meaningful job.

The 54-year-old worker has spent many years soaking in dirty sewage. They have to manually dredge ditches when machines have a breakdown.

Daily work of the elderly worker and his team for a clean and beautiful Hanoi.

Braving the scorching heat in the summer or cold winds in the winter, workers still do their jobs in the city sewer lines.

Workers from the Mechanic Group No.8 - Mechanical Construction and Installation enterprise carried out sludge suction at a manhole on the Van Phuc - Phan Ke Binh street, Ba Dinh district, Hanoi.

To do this, they had to open the drain cover to put the hose into the sewer line.

The workers at work. They do not mind poor sanitation and soaking in sewage.

With the support force on the ground, Chinh is entering the manhole to check the hose system.

Chinh climbed the ladder down into the sewer pipe. According to the workers of the Mechanics Group No. 8, it is extremely hot and stuffy inside the sewer line. Despite having to work in a difficult environment, Mr. Chinh is always optimistic and strives best to complete his task.

Chinh takes a break after working for hours.
