President Truong Tan Sang and Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni discussed measures to boost the two countries` traditional friendship and comprehensive cooperation at their meeting in Phnom Penh on December 23.
The two countries set up their diplomatic ties in 1967. Since then, the bilateral relations continue thriving on the motto of good neighborliness, time-honored friendship, comprehensive cooperation and long-term sustainability in many fields.
King Sihamoni highlighted Sang’s visit as a significant landmark in the bilateral friendship and all-around cooperation between the two countries, noting that the Cambodia people never forget the invaluable support that the Vietnamese Party, State, government and people have given Cambodia in every circumstance as well as in the national construction and development.
Both sides coordinated closely and effectively in national defence and security through sharing information, jointly addressing matters arising along their shared borderline, maintaining joint patrols at sea, and searching for and repatriating remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers who died during wartime in Cambodia.
For his part, President Sang said Vietnam always treasures and greatly valued the fine sentiment and assistance that King Sihamoni and the late King Norodom Sihanouk as well as the Cambodian people have given to Vietnam in the past struggles for national independence and the current development process. He expressed his conviction that the Cambodian King will continue to bolster the ties with Vietnam in the interests of the two peoples.
Both host and guest shared the wish that the demarcation of land border and marker planting will be completed soon, helping build a borderline of peace, friendship, cooperation and development between the two countries. President Truong Tan Sang asked King Sihamoni to create the best possible conditions for Vietnamese living in the country. On the occasion, President Sang invited King Norodom Sihamoni to visit Vietnam at an appropriate time and his invitation was graciously accepted.
