The displayed artworks vividly capture Hanoi's daily life, culture, heritage, and natural beauty.
Visitors will have a chance to explore 50 exceptional watercolor paintings, capturing familiar daily scenes, natural landscapes, and the people of Hanoi at the exhibition titled “Hanoi in my Heart” which will open from September 10 to September 20 in downtown Hanoi.
The weeks-long event, which is organized by the Hoan Kiem Lake and Old Quarter Management Board and the “Hanoi Watercolor” artist group, is part of activities to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Hanoi's Liberation Day (October 10, 1954 - October 10, 2024) amid the charm of Hanoi’s autumn, brimming with nostalgia and contemporary inspiration.
Hanoi has for years served as a rich source of inspiration for artists across various disciplines, with painting being one of the most captivating art forms.
“The city’s landscapes, its people, and the natural changes it undergoes, along with the profound emotions evoked by this culturally rich land, have made a lasting mark on the nation's cultural and artistic landscape,” artist Nguyen Phuong, head of the Hanoi Watercolor Association told The Hanoi Times.
The exhibition showcases works from both professional and amateur artists, most of whom are young and either born and raised in Hanoi or deeply influenced by brief visits. Their distinctive perspectives on Hanoi are expressed through the deceptively simple yet uniquely captivating medium of watercolor.
Notably, the inherent qualities of watercolor, such as its transparency, lightness, and the purity and intensity of its colors, make it the perfect medium to depict Hanoi's evolving charm.
Visitors will be immersed in a space that is both familiar and enchanting, where memories are preserved and new inspirations emerge, fostering a deeper appreciation for the cultural heritage of the capital. With its thousand-year-old history, Hanoi remains the heart of the nation, resonating in the daily lives of its people.
“Watercolor is a unique medium that allows artists to express their emotions, thoughts, and reflections in subtle and profound ways,” artist Nguyen Phuong shared. The artworks on display vividly portray daily life, culture, heritage, and the natural beauty of Hanoi, offering an authentic and vibrant glimpse into the artists' love for their homeland, country, and people.
Additionally, the exhibition will feature interactive sessions with the artists, creating a dynamic space where creators, their works, and the audience can connect. This interactive format allows artists to share their ideas and receive feedback from viewers, emphasizing that every artwork takes on a life of its own once it reaches the public.
The exhibition will run from September 10 to September 20, 2024, on the first and second floors of the Old Quarter Cultural Exchange Center at 49 Tran Hưng Đạo, Hoan Kiem District, Hanoi.
