Earlier, the patient had been diagnosed with end-stage dilated cardiomyopathy and there was prediction of possible death in the next months.
Heart specialists at Hue Central Hospital successfully implanted a synthetic prosthetic device (Heartware) into the biological human heart of a 39 year-old patient from Quang Binh province.
The “historic” operation was performed by the hospital’s medical staff with the support of a leading expert from Saint Vincent Hospital, Australia. The procedure to insert the synthetic device lasted five hours.
Following the surgery, the heart responded positively with cardiac output increasing from two litres per minutes to four litres per minute.
According to Professor Dr. Bui Duc Phu, Director of the Hue Central Hospital, with this promising medical procedure, one patient has lived for seven years and enjoyed a better quality of life.
