First time Vietnamese film screenings at Cannes Festival

Vietnamese movie will, for the first time, be premiered at the 70th annual Cannes Film Festival scheduled for between May 17 to 22.

The movie Đảo của dân ngụ cư (the Island of Aliens) by female director Hong Anh will be screened at Vietnam Night, the event to promote Vietnamese film industry on May 20. The movie director Hong Anh and two main casts Ngoc Thanh Tam and Pham Hong Phuoc will walk the red carpet and take part in meetings and exchanges held by the Movie Department.
Vietnam Night is expected to feature the most famous and successful films of Vietnamese cinema and introduces Vietnamese cuisine, is expected to create lasting impression on the visitors.
Prior going to Cannes, the Island of Aliens won three prizes at the ASEAN Film Festival & Awards 2017, including the best film, best actor and best director of photography.
A Vietnamese booth is arranged at the Village International Pantireo to showcase Vietnamese film studios as well as the country and people of Vietnam. In addition, The Way Station, The Third Wife, Taste and Sloth Monkey Never Cries will be introduced at the booth.
The Vietnam Movie Department will sign a minutes of cooperation with France’s National Centre for Cinema and Moving Image to  tighten  movie production cooperation between the two countries.
“Vietnam - a new destination for blockbusters” will be a key theme of the campaign of the Vietnamese movie industry at the festival. The most impressive photos of Trang An - Tam Coc - Bich Dong natural scenic site, Ha Long Bay and Son Doong Cave will be printed on large banners located in front of the Majestic Barriere Hotel, which normally accommodates famous film actors and actresses, directors and filmmakers. Besides attending Cannes Film Festival, Vietnam also organises Vietnamese a movie week in Spain.
The Cannes Film Festival has lured the A-lister from all the globe for 70 years – and many of them come for more than the films. The glamorous festival gives celebrities the chance to experience more than the films being debuted.
To mark Cannes’ 70th anniversary, the festival has gone all out, starting May 17 Wednesday night with a screening of French favorite Arnaud Desplechin’s “Ismael’s Ghosts”. Also planned are gala dinners, concerts, special guests (Clint Eastwood, David Lynch, Jane Campion and Alfonso Cuaron), a virtual reality short by Alejandro Inarritu, even a celebrity tournament of petanque, a much-loved local game.
