First Vietnamese state school to offer Cambridge International A Levels.

The MoU was signed in the presence of the Director, Department of Education and Training Hanoi, and endorsed by the Chairman of the People’s Committee Hanoi. Established in 1908, Chu Van An High School Hanoi is one of the oldest secondary education institutions in Vietnam.
It is one of the top three national high schools in the country, and is highly selective in its admissions. The school has produced many of Vietnam’s great leaders such as Pham Van Dong, Ngo Gia Tu, Nguyen Van Cu, and Le Van Luong.
Ben Schmidt, Regional Director, Southeast Asia & Pacific, Cambridge International Examinations, said: We are very glad to offer Cambridge International A Level examinations to Chu Van An Hanoi High School students, providing them with the choice to obtain international qualifications in the medium of English.
Cambridge International A Levels are recognised by top universities and employers around the world. Through this memorandum, we are looking forward to helping prepare some of Vietnam’s most gifted students for further education and great success in the future.
Chu Van An High School also known as Chu Van An National School or Pomelo School (trường Bưởi, before 1945) is one of the three provincial public magnet high schools in Hanoi, Vietnam, along with Hanoi-Amsterdam High School and Nguyen Hue High School. Established by French authorities in 1908 as High School of the Protectorate (French: Lycée du Protectorat), this is one of the oldest institutions for secondary education in Indochina.
Despite the initial purpose of the French government for this school which was training native civil servant to serve in their colonial establishments, Vietnamese students at Bưởi school, common name of the school, had many times struggled against colonial doctrine and the ruling power. With that patriotic and hard-working traditions, a lot of Bưởi alumni became important figures in many area of Vietnam society such as the revolutionary Phạm Văn Đồng, doctor Tôn Thất Tùng or poet Xuân Diệu.
In 1945, Bưởi school was renamed Chu Van An High School and continued to keep its tradition in education and patriotism. Nowadays, Chu Van An High School is one of three national high school of Vietnam along with Le Hong Phong High School in Ho Chi Minh City and Quoc Hoc High School in Hue.
