On behalf of the municipal government and people, Chairman of Hanoi People 's Committee Nguyen The Thao expressed his deepest condolences to the Singaporean government and people over the death of the former Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew.
Lee Kuan Yew passed away early on March 23 at the age of 91. He was the founding Prime Minister of Singapore and father of the current Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong. He has been widely credited with turning Singapore into one of the most affluent economies in Asia within three decades.
Chairman Nguyen The Thao wrote in a funeral book for the deceased: "The Hanoian leaders and people express the infinite grief to the death of former Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew, the outstanding leaders of Singaporean country and people, talented politician in the region and in the world. Hanoi always remembers the love and the valuable assistance of former Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew for Vietnam. Pleased to send condolences to the family of former Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew, Singaporean government and people over the tremendous loss".
