Hanoi to build Tran Hung Dao Bridge under PPP model

The bridge is scheduled for completion by 2027 with an estimated total investment of VND16.2 trillion (US$615 million).

THE HANOI TIMES — Hanoi will build the Tran Hung Dao Bridge under a public–private partnership (PPP) model, using a build–transfer contract with land as payment.

The investor is a consortium of Cong Thanh Transport Investment and Construction JSC and Cat Ba Sun Co., Ltd, with the project set to be implemented from 2025 to 2027 and an estimated total investment of VND16.2 trillion (US$615 million).

Under the financial structure, Hanoi will compensate the investor with land assets valued at about VND8.19 trillion (US$340 million), with the remaining investment to be funded by the city budget.

Earlier, on October 9, 2025, the Hanoi People’s Committee held a groundbreaking ceremony for the Tran Hung Dao Bridge project, one of eight key projects launched to mark the 71st anniversary of the Capital’s Liberation.

Under the approved design, the four-kilometer route starts at the Tran Hung Dao-Tran Thanh Tong-Le Thanh Tong intersection in Cua Nam Ward and ends at Nguyen Son Street in Long Bien and Bo De wards.

The main bridge will span 870 meters across six spans in two bridge units, featuring a steel arch design inspired by the infinity symbol, while the approach bridges on both sides will extend about 1,213 meters and use prestressed reinforced concrete box girders and slab girders.

The project includes three intersections, comprising a grade-separated junction with Tran Khanh Du and Nguyen Khoai roads, an intersection with the Ta Hong Dyke Road and Co Linh Road and an at-grade junction with Nguyen Son Street.

Tran Hung Dao Bridge, which is one of 18 road bridges planned to cross the Red River under Hanoi’s transport development master plan, is expected to support urbanization, facilitate population redistribution and ease traffic pressure in the city center.

It helps strengthen connections between major arterial routes along both sides of the Red River and reduce congestion on Chuong Duong and Vinh Tuy bridges.

There are currently nine bridges in operation across the Red River, including Thang Long, Chuong Duong, Vinh Tuy, Thanh Tri, Nhat Tan, Vinh Thinh, Long Bien and Viet Tri–Ba Vi.

Under the master plan through 2030 with a vision to 2050, Hanoi plans to build nine additional bridges, including the Tran Hung Dao Bridge.

Since the beginning of the year, the city has broken ground on three Red River crossings, namely Tu Lien, Thuong Cat and Tran Hung Dao.
