Hanoi among most affordable destinations for your 2019 world adventures
Travel doesn’t have to be expensive, there’s always a way to get to someplace new without breaking the bank.
Hanoi has been named among the most affordable destinations for your 2019 world adventures, according to a list released by Uproxx, an entertainment and popular culture news website.
Vietnam and Hanoi, in particular, should be on everyone’s list of must-see destinations. There’s an atmosphere to the place that grabs you and doesn’t let go. It’s the sort of spot that you may end up spending months in without really noticing. You can grab a bed in a hostel for US$5 a night. Entire apartments go for as little as US$15 a night on Airbnb. This all helps in that “spending a couple of months here” attitude you’ll eventually adopt.
Uproxx advises travelers that the food here is phenomenal. Streets are lined with little pop-up restaurants seemingly stacked on top of each other. A US$1 bowl of noodles or pork with rice isn’t out of the question. This is the sort of place where US$5 a day on food can truly last, maybe even with a little change left over. Of course, those prices trickle down to beer, water, and everything else food-related.
Getting to Vietnam is getting easier and cheaper. AirAsia and FlyScoot often have great deals from Honolulu that can theoretically get you there for as little as US$250 each way. Even if you’re not in Hawaii, flights from the East Coast run around US$500 roundtrip, which is still a great deal.
Quito in Ecuador tops the list, followed by Granada in Nicaragua, New Orleans in the US, Krakow in Poland, Istanbul in Turkey, Dakar in Senegal, and so on.
Earlier, Hanoi has been named among five recommendable destinations in the world for solo travel, according to a list released by Skyscanner, a global metasearch engine.
“Hanoi is constantly rated as one of the safest cities for solo travel and you’re bound to bump into like-minded travelers in Vietnam’s capital – it’s a favourite among backpackers,” Skyscanner wrote.
The number of visitors to Hanoi in 2018 was estimated at 26 million, a 9.3% increase from 2017, according to the municipal Department of Tourism. Of the total visitors, 5.74 million were foreigners, marking a rise of 16% compared to 2017.
