Hanoi: applying science and technology in hi-tech agricultural production

The Hanoi Party Committee and the People’s Committee has recently organized a conference to enhance the application of science and technology to sustainably develop hi-tech agricultural production.

The conference saw the attendance of Ngo Thi Thanh Hang, Member of the Party Central Committee, Permanent Deputy Secretary of the Ha Noi Party Committee and Head of Steering Committee for Program 02; Tran Van Tung, Deputy Minister of Science and Technology; Nguyen Van Suu, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Municipal People’s Committee.

The conference aims at linking managers, scientists, farmers and enterprises to establish connection chains from production, processing to consumption of agricultural products.
 
According to Director of the Department of Science and Technology Le Ngoc Anh, over the past years, Hanoi has paid special attention to strengthening the application of science and technology in agricultural production. Many topics, projects have focused on applying new technologies in hi-tech agriculture and environment treatment, contributing to establishing scientific processes and building new technology solutions as well as creating products with high quality and competitiveness, such as Dien pomelo, Yen Chau red berries, etc. In addition, units have also boosted the application of science and technology in treating environment, lakes and ponds.
 


 

At the conference, participants focused on discussing solutions, recommendations and proposals to boost the application and transfer of science and technology into agricultural production. 

According to Pham Trung Dung, General Director of the Central Crop Variety Company, apart from researching and developing high quality rice, the company has successfully piloted Japanese yellow melon in Hanoi and several localities. Dung also said that the Capital City should provide preferential policies, mechanisms for hi-tech agriculture, such as investing facilities, developing large-scale production areas, building brand names of products, etc.
 
According to Dang Van Dong, Deputy Director of Research Institute of Fruits and Vegetables, Hanoi has established several hi-tech agricultural production areas, but they are too small. Thus, in the coming time, the capital city should boost hi-tech agricultural production; promote administrative reform; figure out preferential policies for agricultural sector.
 


 

Emphasizing that Hanoi has many advantages and potentials for hi-tech agriculture, Nguyen Lan Hung noted that the city leaders should concentrate on transferring scientific and technological applications to farmers so as to produce high quality goods to meet the consumption demands of local people.

Addressing the conference, Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Tran Van Tung affirmed that, in the coming time, the capital city should pay special attention to strengthening the mechanization and application of new technology into production so as to create products for exporting; encourage start-ups in agricultural field; create favorable conditions for enterprises to invest in agriculture. Especially, the Deputy Minister noted that Hanoi must plan the agricultural production areas.

Highly appreciating the delegate’s opinions for hi-tech agriculture, Permanent Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee Ngo Thi Thanh Hang said that science and technology have played an important role in the city’s socio – economic development. Science and technology have positively and efficiently participated in developing agricultural sector towards added value and sustainable development, improving farmer’s living standards and building new style rural areas. At present, the city has a total of 89 models of hi-tech agricultural production, 56 connection models.

To bring the value of high-tech agricultural products from 25% to at least 30% of the total value of agricultural production, the Permanent Deputy Secretary emphasized that Ha Noi will strive to become a large center for creativity and transfer of technology in agriculture; boost the application of science and technology; establish connection chains from production, processing and consumption to meet demands of local people and export.
