On May 10th, Chairman of Hanoi’s People Committee Nguyen Duc Chung met leaders of international trade agencies as well as large number of foreign enterprises, with the aim to arouse the investment flow into Hanoi’s market.
Receiving Mr Jens Ruebbert – Chairman of European Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam (EuroCham), Mr Nguyen Duc Chung said, Vietnam, as well as Hanoi - the capital always kept Europe partners, enterprises in top priority. Cooperation with them is among core contents on Vietnam development agenda on basis of mutual interest. On behalf of EuroCham, Mr Ruebbert confirmed its willingness to help Hanoi achieve green growth (develop and maintain ecosystem at the same time); on the way to become a smart city, eco city. The Chamber also hopes to promote Hanoi’s image to European countries. With Europe-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement going into force in upcoming time, EuroCham will focus on facilitate the FTA processing.
Agreeing with Rubbert’s suggestion, Chairman of Hanoi People’s committee pledged to mobilize related offices to facilitate Europe enterprises to operate business in Hanoi. Especially, they are encouraged to broaden activities in 3 fields: Environment Improvement, Traffic Infrastructure and Digital government building (on the way to smart city model).
Meeting 40-enterprise group from Hong Kong, China led by Mr Vicent Lo - Chairman of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), Chairman Nguyen Duc Chung pressed, during past time, Hanoi – Hong Kong cooperation made non-stop forward steps, however, didn’t realize the full potential.
Mr Nguyen Duc Chung showed desire that, in the near time, foreign enterprises, especially Hong Kong, will enhance investing activities in Hanoi of strong fields. At the moment, numerous core projects in Hanoi open for Hong Kong enterprise to attend as consultation, investor… such as metro rail, satellite urban area, and rubbish and sewage treatment system. Chairman Nguyen Duc Chung said, Hanoi government will create favorable condition for foreign enterprise, among those are Chinese ones, to approach and find cooperative partners in the capital.
On the same day, Chairman of Hanoi’s People Committee Nguyen Duc Chung met Delegation from UK Export Finance (UKEF) led by Louis Taylor – the President.
Introducing development plan of Hanoi to the delegation, Mr Nguyen Duc Chung said, the plan includes 3 breakthrough phase: Infrastructure improvement, administrative reform and human resources ‘quality boost. In 2016, Hanoi government saved 3,3% of regular spending (95m USD) since they call for social enterprise investing in public service such as garbage collecting. Hanoi’s target is to save up to 10% regular spending until 2020 (~ 900m USD). This fund becomes capital source for Hanoi’s development plans. Outstandingly, about infrastructure project, Hanoi government advocate for socialization (attract investment from private enterprises) in Public – Private combination method. Icon projects are Metro railway, bridges over the Red River, Noi Bai airport renovation, plans to connect Ring roads, train routes to ease traffic jams…
In finance, Hanoi government are defining old and new budget plan, considering to add fund from international finance sources… Within framework of the meeting, Chairman Nguyen Duc Chung ordered related officers, finance experts to collaborate with UKEF’s ones, aiming to upcoming cooperation.
Appraising development achievement of Hanoi during the past time and agreeing with Mr Chung’s suggestion, Mr Louis Taylor pledged to try his best to cooperate with Hanoi government, pushing bilateral cooperation in the future.
