Hanoi appreciates Canada`s experience on economic management and operation, at the mean time desiring to attract investment in high-tech fields, urban infrastructure development.
At the seminar of "Meet Canada", Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee said, in recent years, the growth of Hanoi is constantly increasing. In 2016, Hanoi's GRDP growth gains 8.2%. Total foreign investment to Hanoi is USD 24.6 billion from 27 countries and territories, ranks 3rd in attracting foreign investment in the country.
In recent years, Hanoi has implemented several measures to improve the investment and business environment and support entrepreneurship enterprises. Thus, in 2016, Hanoi had registered 23,000 new businesses, increased 18% in the number of enterprises and 65% increase in capital, comparing to 2015. Hanoi has a lot of potentials and developing conditions such as the number of young workers accounting for 60 % of labor force and qualified labor rate accounting for 30%, the highest in the country.
About cooperation opportunities between Hanoi and Canada, Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee Nguyen Duc Chung said that the seminar is an opportunity for Hanoi and localities to search to expand trade opportunities for investment, trade with Canadian businesses in particular and APEC nations in general.
Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee also believe, with the foundation of diplomatic relations that was established more than 40 years, Vietnam and Canada are facing tremendous opportunities for cooperation, especially in the field of investment, trade that will grow to new heights, bring benefits to both countries.
In Hanoi, there are 23 projects of Canadian businesses that are operating with total registered capital of $7.7 million, in the fields of education, science and technology. City Chairman affirmed that Hanoi has always defined Canada's partners to play a particularly important role. However, Nguyen Duc Chung also said that the economic cooperation, trade and investment is not commensurate to the potential and advantages of the two sides.
"Hanoi appreciates Canada on trade services and operating experience in monitoring the economy and the desire to attract investment in the field of high technology, finance, education, renewable energy, development of urban infrastructure and tourism," said Nguyen Duc Chung.
The Head of Hanoi also pledged to continue strong reform, create favorable conditions for businesses to invest and support the creative ideas.
Canadian Ambassador Ping Kitnikone and the leadership of Canada Business Association in Vietnam appreciate cooperation potential between the two sides; Vietnam localities should continue to accelerate the promotion introduction and attract Canadian investors, particularly in the areas of industrial production, agriculture, high technology, tourism.
