Hanoi: CPI up slightly in May

On May 20, Hanoi Statistics Department announced Hanoi`s consumer price index (CPI) in May, 2016. Accordingly, Hanoi`s CPI in May rose slightly over the previous month, but did not give a specific number.

As reported by Hanoi Statistics Department, the main reason was due to higher gasoline prices, so price index increased in traffic group.

Among the 11 groups of products and services, transportation services posted the highest growth in May, mainly driven by the price hike of petrol and oil, which was adjusted on April 20 and May 5.

Increases were seen in building materials (0.88%); restaurant and catering services (0.36%); cultural, entertainment and tourism services (0.34%), beverages and tobacco (0.11%); and household equipment (0.09%). In May, domestic gold prices fluctuated along with world prices. The VND/USD exchange rate has remained stable so far this year thanks to new exchange rate management.

The report of Hanoi Statistics Department also show that the price of gold on Hanoi market rebounded (up 1.5%) over the previous month, the price of gold on the market sold commonly at 3,388 thousand VND/tael.
