Hanoi focused on 2016 vocational training
Municipal People’s Committee Chairman Nguyen Duc Chung said authorities in the capital city planned to 70 billion VND (3.1 million USD) for vocational training in 2016, with priority given to rural labourers and people with disabilities.
As part of the city’s plan to arrange vocational training for rural labourers from 2016 to 2020, the project is expected to benefit nearly 30,500 labourers in rural areas, more than 15,500 of whom will be trained in agriculture. Another 14,400 will receive training in other professions.
Beneficiaries will mostly be people with disabilities, those with low incomes, people from ethnic minority groups, families that rendered great services to the national revolution, and households whose agricultural land was taken for other use. Municipal authorities have directed relevant sectors to work with vocational training centres in the city on the project.
He stressed the need to promote development and re-organisation of district-level vocational training units; plan the network of vocational schools; and encourage public and private universities, research institutes and enterprises to join the work.
A vocational training reform project has got approval from the Prime Minister with the ultimate goal of aligning occupational education and training towards the requirements of a green and sustainable economy.
The project, funded with the German Government’s official development assistance (ODA), will be carried out from 2016 to 2018 under the management of the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs. It will be implemented at a cost of nearly 9.37 million EUR (10.4 million USD), including 9 million EUR from the German Government and over 368,000 EUR from Vietnam.
It is set to assist the compilation of documents guiding the implementation of the Law on Occupational Education. It will also improve the capacity of occupational education teachers and managers, helping the local education system satisfy sustainable and green growth demands.
The requirements for a green economy, which are set in the Vietnam National Green Growth Strategy, will also be added to the training curricula for some occupations like mechanics technology, electrical/electronics engineering, and mechatronics.
The project will also support the Lilama 2 Technical and Technology College to design demand-oriented training curricula, and help the General Directorate of Vocational Training, other occupational education facilities and business associations raise public awareness of vocational training.
