Hanoi focuses on exploiting potential and advantages to develop tourism
Potential and advantages to develop the capital city’s tourism are still huge.
Hanoi focuses on exploiting potentials and advantages to develop the capital’s tourism in the coming time, said Politburo member and Secretary of the municipal Party Committee Hoang Trung Hai on March 13.
Contributing to the capital’s economic development
According to Director of Hanoi’s Tourism Department Tran Duc Hai, in 2018, Hanoi’s tourism kept affirming its role and position as a major economic sector with stable growth, contributing effectively to the city’s economic restructuring process.
In 2018, Hanoi received 26.31 million visitors, up 10.4% year-on-year, total revenue from tourism reached US$3.33 billion, up 14.2% year-on-year. The capital city is one of eight destinations for all visitors voted by the US’s TIME magazine.
In addition, in the first two months of 2019, it is estimated that the number of tourists to Hanoi reached 4.87 million, up 10.7% year-on-year. Total revenue from tourism is estimated at US$744.67 million, up 34.7% compared to the same period last year.
To gain the above-mentioned results, Tran Duc Hai said that his department has implemented synchronous solutions, such as promoting the capital’s tourism images, producing video clips, 360-degree photo interface, conducting promotion to travel businesses and tourists, among others.
Improving service quality for tourists
Addressing the meeting, member and Secretary of the municipal Party Committee Hoang Trung Hai praised the efforts and results that the municipal Department of Tourism achieved in the past years. Especially from 2015 onwards, when Hanoi’s Department of Tourism was reestablished, the capital’s tourism has made impressive breakthroughs.
Potential and advantages to develop the city’s tourism remain huge. Each locality, field and industry can develop tourism. Therefore, the Department of Tourism needs to strengthen its management and study potentials and advantages of each destination, Hai stressed.
Besides, the department should work out solutions to improve the capacity of domestic tourism enterprises, train well-qualified staff, especially tour guides, boost application of information technology and promote online travel services, Hai said.
He also required focus on directing and speeding up the progress of key projects on tourism development as well as reviewing the city’s 15 key tourist destinations from environmental sanitation, transportation, infrastructure and services to improve the quality and better serve tourists.
"To develop tourism, we must first pay attention to environmental protection. Therefore, it is necessary to grow flowers and trees to embellish landscapes, build a civilized and elegant lifestyle,” Hai noted.
