Hanoi launches 2016 Action Month for children

Hanoi People’s Committee held a ceremony to launch the 2016 Action Month for children, themed “For safe lives, preventing accidents and injuries for children”, from June 1-30, at Dan Phuong district on May 25.

Speaking at the ceremony, Vice Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Ngo Van Quy said that Hanoi city at present has more than 1.7 million children.

In the recent years, the municipal Party committees, authorities, departments, agencies, unions have been better interested in the health care services, education and entertainment for children in the city, he noted.
Vice Chairman Quy said that the city has also provided support to all children with special difficultie in various forms.
Implementing the Prime Minister's decision approved for the programme on prevention and control of injuries to children in 2016 - 2020, Hanoi has issued a plan on the programme of accidents and injuries prevention for children from 2016 to 2020.

Vice Chairman Quy requested all the city's departments, agencies, unions, district and towns to focus on boosting communication activities, education and social mobilisation to raise public awareness and responsibility of the party committees, institutions and branches of municipal associations, families for the protection of children's educational care, especially in the prevention of violence, abuse and prevention of accidents and child injuries.

Hanoi aims to mobilise the active participation of all governments, departments, organisations, families and children themselves in the implementation of the children's rights and duties, he added.
Especially, under the programme of 2016 Action Month, all children with special difficulties, and those from poor households, and ethnic minority areas in Hanoi will be provided assistances on International Day for Children (June 1).
In addition, the city will organize the training for staffs who are in charge of protection and care of children, for families and children themselves on the knowledge, skills of injury prevention in general, prevention of drowning and traffic accidents in particular.
Diversified propaganda on the radio system of communes, wards, towns and other means of mass media on the subject will be included in the action month.
At the same time, the capital of Hanoi will focus on building welfare constructions, entertainment facilities, pools and playgrounds for children in the community.
The event also targets to build playing grounds and swimming-pools for children in public places and raise funds for poor and ethnic minority children.
The 4th ASEAN Children’s Forum is scheduled to take place in Hanoi in June. 
The city will hold safe, useful and fun activities for children in the summer. 
The 2016 Action Month for children is expected to help raising public awareness and responsibility for children protection, especially in prevention of violence, abuse, accidents, and injuries. 
The action month also aims to install and review signposts to prevent accidents and injuries for kids, especially drowning and traffic accidents.
