Hanoi launches "Color of ASEAN" festival

Building bridges between Hanoi and ASEAN nations is the goal of the international cultural exchange and people-to-people diplomacy event.

The "Colors of ASEAN" cultural festival, which runs from August 29 to September 1 at the Thang Long Imperial Citadel, Hanoi, helps festival-goers experience the diverse cultures of ASEAN member states through a variety of products.

Key attractions include a replica of Hanoi's Old Quarter, complete with lively cyclo rickshaws, busy trams, flower-bedecked bicycles, and vibrant food stalls, allowing international visitors to experience the charm of Hanoi.

The event also features calligraphy performances, a children’s drawing contest, and a special night tour of the Thang Long Imperial Citadel. Other activities include photo exhibitions, drawing competitions, thematic booths such as "Integration," "City Flavors," and "Village Aromas," folk games, a children’s music and dance festival, and fashion shows.

At the opening ceremony, Nguyen Manh Quyen, Deputy Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee, emphasized that promoting ASEAN cooperation remains a priority in Hanoi's and Vietnam's multilateral foreign policy.

Therefore, the festival not only follows this spirit but also aims to celebrate the 57th anniversary of ASEAN, the 79th National Day of Vietnam, the 70th anniversary of Hanoi's Liberation Day, and the 25th anniversary of Hanoi being honored as a "City for Peace" by UNESCO.

"This is a chance for international friends in Vietnam to connect and engage with the people of Hanoi," Quyen stated.

Lao Ambassador to Vietnam Khamphao Ernthavanh said that Hanoi's hosting of the event as a UNESCO-designated "City for Peace" would increasingly embody the harmonious and inclusive values central to ASEAN.

She also expressed confidence that the "Colors of ASEAN" event will succeed and offer excellent experiences to foreign visitors and Hanoi locals.

With the theme "ASEAN: Enhancing Connectivity and Resilience," Laos assumed the ASEAN chairmanship for the third time in 2024, making it a momentous year for the country.

The ambassador added that Hanoi's historical depth, vibrant culture, and hospitality, which are conveyed through events such as this festival, would not only attract international tourists but also enhance mutual understanding and boost cooperation among ASEAN nations.
