Hanoi: Launching the first Action Month for Work Safety and Sanitation in construction sector
Ministry of Construction has recently organized a ceremony to launch the first Action Month for Work Safety and Sanitation in the construction sector. Deputy Minister of Construction Le Quang Hung and Vice Chairman of the Municipal People’s Committee Ngo Van Quy were present at the event.

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Minister of Construction Le Quang Hung honored the enterprises, units and individuals who have excellent performance in guaranteeing health and safety of employees.
In an effort to ensure health of employees, improve working condition, reduce accidents and occupational diseases in the construction sector, he requested construction enterprises to increase information work on polices and laws on work safety and sanitation; enterprises, organizations and individuals to strictly follow legal regulations on guaranteeing work safety and sanitation, and raise quality of training on work safety and sanitation. Specialized agencies under ministries and relevant authorities shall increase inspection and examination of work safety and sanitation in construction sites; labor unions at all levels perform their task of building policies, and take measures to ensure work safety and sanitation.
In 2016, Ministry of Construction proactively cooperated with ministries specialized in managing construction and Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs to complete legal documents, specify the role and responsibility of Ministry of Construction and ministries specialized in managing construction.
Furthermore, the Ministry in coordination with Vietnam Labor Union of Construction, Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs Inspectorate conducted examination, checked construction safety in certain enterprises and construction works, such as checking safety of over 20 national key works and 34 works in Hanoi, Lao Cai, Bac Can and Lang Son, and guiding safety management in 25 works in Hanoi.
Occupational accidents in the construction sector accounted for 23.8% of total accidents, and dead victims 24.5%. In order to handle the problem, Ministry of Construction aims to further build and complete legal documents on work safety in the field of construction, and specify the role as well as responsibility of specialized agencies and subjects engaged in construction activities.
Moreover, the ministry urges People’s Committees of cities and provinces under the Central Government to issue guidance documents on guiding, checking and handling legal violations on work safety and sanitation in the construction sector; guide development of coordination process for work safety and sanitation examination and inspection between the Department of Construction and local authorities; guide how to define functions, missions and authority of specialized agencies in accordance with legal regulations and regulations of Joint Circular 07/2015/TTLT-BXD-BNV dated November 16, 2015 of Ministry of Construction and Ministry of Home Affairs on guiding functions, missions, authority and apparatus of agencies specialized in construction under the Municipal People’s Committee.
