Hanoi opens Green Market to promote sustainable trade
Sustainable shopping has taken center stage in Hanoi, where cooperatives are using a Green Market to bring agricultural and craft village products closer to urban consumers.
THE HANOI TIMES — Hanoi on December 25 launched the “Green Market - Connecting Consumers with Cooperatives,” a four-day promotion aimed at boosting sustainable consumption and expanding market access for cooperatives amid rising year-end demand.

Held under Hanoi’s 2025 Investment, Trade and Tourism Promotion Program, the event aims to promote sustainable consumption while helping cooperatives expand market access.
Running through December 28, the market takes place in a nearly 1,000-square-meter exhibition and promotional area at Kim Lien Flower Garden in Hanoi’s Kim Lien Ward.
The event brings together more than 70 cooperatives and member enterprises from cooperative alliances in Hanoi and several other provinces and cities, including Haiphong, Quang Ninh, Cao Bang, Lao Cai and Dak Lak.
Participants present thousands of products, ranging from regional specialties and One Commune One Product (OCOP) items to traditional craft village goods produced and marketed by cooperatives and businesses nationwide.
Signature Hanoi products on display include Me Tri green rice flakes, Uoc Le traditional pork rolls, Xa Cau black incense, Phuong Bac phoenix spring rolls along with fresh milk and dairy products made from Ba Vi milk.
These offerings reflect the capital’s rich culinary heritage and the close ties between agriculture, processing and traditional craft villages.
Beyond shopping, the Green Market program delivers a hands-on, eco-friendly experience for consumers.
Visitors can meet cooperative members directly, learn about production processes and hear the stories behind each product, helping build trust and appreciation for locally made and sustainably produced goods.
Nguyen Tien Phong, Vice Chairman of the Hanoi Cooperative Alliance, said he hopes the Green Market will give cooperatives a strong platform to raise brand visibility and promote agricultural and handicraft models linked to traditional craft villages in Hanoi and other localities.
“Through the program, we aim to strengthen brand value while diversifying agricultural products, handicrafts and traditional craft village goods produced and traded by cooperatives,” he said.
