Hanoi proposes synchronous policy for implementing OCOP program

The city’s authority will connect with provinces and cities across the country to implement trade promotion activities.

Hanoi has proposed the government to soon issue a synchronous policy to effectively implement the One Commune One Product (OCOP) Program for the 2021-25 period.

Particularly, the proposal aims at supporting investment project, improving product quality, clearly stipulating bonus for the program’s participants in order to motivate and create conditions for them to actively contribute to the development of the OCOP Program, according to Nguyen Van Chi, Permanent Deputy Chief of the Hanoi Office of New Rural Development Program Coordination.

Currently, the government has not regulated support for those who have OCOP-labeled products, causing the failure of provinces and cities (including Hanoi) in rolling out this mechanism, according to Chi.

In addition, the budget allocated to consulting units, members of the OCOP appraisal board at all levels has not been approved by the competent authorities.

In the next five years, the city strives to evaluate and classify 400 OCOP-labeled products each year, Chu Phu My, Director of the Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Rural Development told Hanoitimes

To realize the above objective, the city will give priority to upgrading regional specialties and traditional craft villages, and continue to assist the branding of certified products. The municipal department will also closely monitor the quality of the OCOP-labeled products.

To successfully implement the OCOP program as expected, besides improving the quality of products, it is very important to enhance promotional activities.

In 2021, the Hanoi Department of Industry and Trade will coordinate with departments and localities to set up 30-40 new showrooms under the OCOP program.

“The authority will connect with provinces and cities across the country to implement trade promotion activities,” Tran Thi Phuong Lan, Acting Director of the Hanoi Department of Industry and Trade told Hanoitimes.

There are three main factors for the success of the implementation of the OCOP program over the past three years, according to Chi. “The communication work is widely conducted, thereby helping governments at all levels and the people understand the meaning of the program and actively participate in,” he added.

  • * Currently, Hanoi has 14 showrooms of OCOP products in eight districts and towns.

* The capital targets to complete the evaluation and classification for at least 2,000 OCOP products by 2025.

* As of 2020, the city has completed a similar process for 630 OCOP products achieving three-star rating and above, exceeding the target of having at least 500 OCOP products.
