Hanoi puts emphasis on educating highly skilled and talented people

Hanoi education sector has made great efforts to successfully complete their tasks in the 2023-2024 academic year.

In the academic year 2023-2024, Hanoi’s education sector has achieved many positive results in all aspects with a focus on training qualified and talented people.

Hanoi Education Department Director Tran The Cuong made the statement at this week's awards ceremony for 820 outstanding students, representing over 2.3 million students in the 2023-2024 school year.

"Twelve Hanoi students won prizes in international Olympiads, and 184 students won prizes in national competitions. In particular, Hanoi continued to lead the country with 35 first prizes in the 2023 National High School Gifted Students Examination," Cuong said.

The Director reported that starting from the 2023-2024 academic year, the capital's education sector will update its teaching and learning methods, launch a campaign to build a "green-clean-nice-safe" school model and use information technology in teaching in line with the "Intelligent Education Development in Hanoi" plan.

The facilities and IT equipment for teaching and learning in schools have been upgraded in a synchronized and modern way. By the end of 2023, more than 73% of the city's public schools will meet the set standards, Cuong said.

In the coming period, the Municipal Department of Education and Training will issue a "Plan for the Construction and Management of School Toilets" and a "Plan for the Construction of Additional Schools and Classrooms", among others.

Representing Hanoi's 2.3 million students, the awardees include students who excelled in their studies, extracurricular activities, youth union activities, and social work. Poor and ethnic minority students who have achieved good academic results and spread good deeds throughout society were also honored.

Among those honored is Ha Duc Vuong of Chu Van An Gifted High School, who won second prize in geography at the recent National Excellent Student Contest. "I am so happy and proud of my achievement and for being invited to the ceremony," Vuong told The Hanoi Times.

At the event, Hanoi's leaders praised the proud results achieved by the city's teachers and students in the 2023-2024 school year, lauding 97 students who excelled in national and international competitions.

Deputy Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee Nguyen Thi Tuyen speaks at the ceremony.

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee Nguyen Thi Tuyen reiterated that the Vietnamese government has always given high priority to education and training. "Innovating and improving the quality of education and training, and developing high-quality human resources are the key tasks in 2020-2025," Tuyen said.

She praised the excellent achievements of the education sector in the 2023-2024 school year, which reflected the persistent efforts and talents of each Hanoi student, the dedicated support of teachers, and the care of parents and families.

The official asked the capital's education sector to focus on ensuring good admissions work at the beginning of the 2024-2025 school year and prepare good conditions for the high school graduation exam so that students can graduate and be admitted to universities and colleges with the highest results.

"Hanoi's education sector must continue to renovate the general education program, increase the size of schools to reduce the pressure of enrollment, and promote career guidance for students," Tuyen said, suggesting that Hanoi's education contributes to making Hanoi worthy of a typical center of the country in quality education and training, adapting to the process of national digital transformation and international integration.
