Hanoi responds to International Day of Happiness 2023

The International Day of Happiness, which falls on March 20, aims to make people worldwide aware of the importance of happiness in their lives.

Implementing the cultural development project, improving the quality of human resources, and building elegant and civilized citizens is Hanoi's way of responding to the International Day of Happiness, celebrated annually on March 20.

According to Tran Thi Van Anh, deputy director of Hanoi's Department of Culture and Sports, as soon as the "Project on Activities to Celebrate the International Day of Happiness" was approved by the Prime Minister in 2013, various guiding documents and action plans on the theme were issued by Hanoi authorities.

One of them is the "Program of the Hanoi Party Committee on "Developing Culture, Improving the Quality of Human Resources, Building Elegant and Civilized Hanoians", which focuses on building civilized and happy families, villages, and residential groups.

She emphasized that 2023 is the year of the 10th anniversary of the implementation of the "Project on Activities to Celebrate the International Day of Happiness". Under the theme of "Happiness for Everyone", various activities will be held in Hanoi to mark the event, in order to realize Politburo's Resolution 15 on building Hanoi into a "modern, civilized and developed" city.

The International Day of Happiness, established by the United Nations General Assembly on June 28, 2012, aims to make people around the world aware of the importance of happiness in their lives.

Prior to the creation of the International Day of Happiness, Jayme Illien co-founded "Happytalism" with Luis Gallardo, President of the World Happiness Foundation. From 2006 to 2012, Illien led a campaign at the United Nations to promote and advocate for the primacy of happiness, well-being, and democracy.

In 2011, Jayme Illien proposed the idea of the International Day of Happiness at the United Nations General Assembly.

The International Day of Happiness was officially established in 2012 and observed for the first time in 2013. Based on Jayme Illien's concept, the United Nations has stepped forward with the International Day of Happiness to raise people's awareness of the importance of happiness in people's lives and the need to incorporate happiness into public policy.

In 2015, the United Nations launched 17 Sustainable Development Goals to make people's lives happier, consisting of eradicating poverty, reducing inequality, and protecting our planet.
