Hanoi seeks deeper access to Japan for local products

Hanoi has called on its embassy in Japan to deepen cooperation by sharing market insights, linking businesses and promoting OCOP products, supporting the city’s drive to expand exports and access distribution networks globally.

THE HANOI TIMES Hanoi aims to strengthen the presence of its OCOP products, key commodities and high-quality consumer goods in Japan, according to Pham Anh Tuan, Standing Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Hanoi.

At a working session with the Vietnamese Embassy in Japan on December 22, Tuan called on Vietnamese diplomats to provide Hanoi businesses and exporters with timely market information, insights into Japanese consumer demand and introductions to potential Japanese partners.

He urged the embassy to actively support Hanoi enterprises in building partnerships, sharing experiences and promoting their products. The meeting took place within the framework of the campaign “Vietnamese People Prioritize Vietnamese Goods.”

Tuan emphasized the vital role of Vietnam’s overseas representative missions in connecting local authorities, businesses and overseas Vietnamese communities, thereby helping enhance the effectiveness of the campaign as Vietnam deepens international integration.

"Japan remains a large and stable market, but it imposes strict requirements on product quality, technical standards, food safety and traceability," said the Vietnam Fatherland Front official.

These high standards present challenges while also pushing Vietnamese goods and Hanoi-made products to upgrade quality, standardize production and build a stronger foothold in global markets.

Vietnamese diplomats in Japan shared updates on consumer trends and regulatory requirements, reaffirming their role as a bridge to help Vietnamese localities and enterprises access the Japanese market in a more structured and sustainable way.

The exchange aimed to strengthen coordination between the Vietnam Fatherland Front system and overseas diplomatic missions, laying a foundation for more effective implementation of the campaign and deeper penetration of Hanoi products into Japan.

Under Hanoi’s Plan No. 335/KH-UBND dated December 11, 2025, the city targets direct access for local businesses to overseas distribution networks by 2030, along with stronger export capacity and competitiveness.

The plan includes providing market information to more than 500 businesses, offering training and consulting to over 300 firms, supporting at least 100 enterprises in cross-border e-commerce, organizing more than 150 trade connections and placing at least 80 Vietnamese products in foreign distribution systems.

Trade promotion will focus on major markets such as the EU, the United States, Canada, China, South Korea, Japan and ASEAN through trade fairs, business-matching programs, Vietnamese goods weeks at global retail chains and closer cooperation with overseas Vietnamese business communities.
