Hanoi strives to become a green and modern urban area. The city targets to increase the rate of public transportation to 20-25%, zone off 10-13% of urban land for transportation and green the city with planting one million trees in the 2016-2020 period.
The information was revealed at the fifth conference of the Hanoi Party Committee (16th tenure) held on June 27.
The fifth conference of the municipal Party Committee focused on discussing the city's socio-economic development plan for 2016-2020 period, targeting Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) growth of 8.5-9% and per income capita reaching 6,268-6,492 USD.
Specially, the capital city will give priority to improving its business climate and competitive capacity with the aims to be among top ten localities nationwide in Provincial Competitiveness Index (CPI) by 2020.
Under the plan, Hanoi's social investment mobilisation is expected to reach 111.9-116.4 billion USD in 2016-2020 period. In the economic structure, service and construction industry account for 67-67.5% and 30-30.5% while agriculture makes up 2.5-3%.

Secretary Hai stressed that concerted efforts need to be made to realise an economic growth rate of 10-11% in the coming six months.
The Secretary said that the priorities should be given to investment attraction, administration procedure simplification and developing a transparent administration system.
Talking about the municipal socio-economic development plan, the Secretary underscored that it is necessary to balance resources in implementing effectively the set strategic tasks.
According to the statistics, the Index of Industrial Production of Hanoi in the first six months of 2016 increased by 7.7% from the same period in 2015, with June’s figure rising 8% year on year.
During the reviewed time, several industries witnessed their growths, including manufacturing and processing (8.1%), electricity production and distribution (6.2%) and water supply and waste water treatment (0.9%). The three sectors also saw a respectively increase of 8.4%, 8.7%, and 6.7% in June.
The manufacturing and processing industry recorded significant growths such products as food (22.6%), clothing (38.9%), pharmaceuticals and medicine materials (24.1%), metal products (21.2%) and furniture (20%).
The Index of Industrial Production of the city rose 7.4% year-on-year during the first five months of this year.
