The modernization and development of the urban economy, water supply, wastewater treatment, among others, play a key role in a city’s future, said Mr. Hue in a meeting on September 23 with outgoing Thai Ambassador to Vietnam Tanee Sangrat.

The Hanoi Party chief highly regarded Mr. Sangrat’s contributions to the relations between the two countries, as well as that of between Hanoi and other Thai localities.

Mr. Hue expected Mr. Sangrat, in his new position, to continue supporting the two countries’ strengthened strategic partnership, while the local authorities are ready to support the Thai Embassy in Hanoi on various issues.

According to Mr. Hue, Hanoi is a city with rapid urbanization and growing population, requiring strong efforts from the local government in addressing social issues, especially those related to environment and traffic.

Additionally, it is also a priority for Hanoi to preserve its cultural and historical values as Vietnam's capital is headed for a green, modern and smart city, Mr. Hue stressed.

Mr. Hue also briefed the Thai ambassador on the capital city’s efforts in the Covid-19 fight, adding there have not been any infections among the expat community in the city over the past six weeks.

In the coming time, Hanoi is stepping up efforts to prepare to host  the 37th ASEAN Summit, for which Mr. Hue expected greater cooperation between Vietnam and Thailand in economy, trade and tourism, once international flights are resumed.

Mr. Sangrat expressed his thanks for the support of the city’s authorities during his term, noting that Hanoi’s success in containing the Covid-19 pandemic has generated great confidence among diplomatic missions residing in the city.
