Hanoi to expand cooperation with the Frankfurt Book Fair

On March 1 afternoon, Chairman of Hanoi People`s Committee Nguyen Duc Chung had a meeting with Mr. Juergen Boos, President of the Frankfurt Book Fair, Germany.

At the meeting, Chairman Nguyen Duc Chung expressed his admiration for the professional method of organization filled of leaders of Frankfurt Book Fair. It is not only one of the book fair, publications in the world scale, the Frankfurt Book Fair was introduced to honor the culture of reading, the achievement of the printing industry, economic research results, is the playground of many different cultures in the world. In 2016, Hanoi Government sent a team of experts of Information and Communications Department to attend the Frankfurt Book Fair to gain experience.

City Chairman Nguyen Duc Chung said that Hanoi is urgently completing the work to the opening section of the city on May 1. In addition, every year on this occasion, the Lunar New Year, Hanoi also organizes book fairs, thereby promoting the development of the publishing industry, improving reading culture to the people.

Therefore, the Hanoi People's Committee Chairman wishes, Vietnam in general and Hanoi in particular will become the guest of honor at the Frankfurt Book Fair 2021. At the mean time hoping that the two sides will strengthen cooperation in the future, especially the issue of human resource training, helping Hanoi to successful organizing large-scale book fair.

Expressing gratitute for City Chairman Nguyen Duc Chung's heartfelt sharing, President of the Frankfurt Book Fair Juergen Boos said that Frankfurt Book Fair has a history of over 500 years, attracted the participation of Publishing book organizations from more than 100 countries and territories worldwide.

On this occasion, Mr. Boos sent invitations to Chairman Nguyen Duc Chung and Hanoi delegation to attend the Frankfurt Book Fair taking place in October, 2017.

For Hanoi's proposal to be the guest of honor at the Frankfurt Book Fair's 2021 suggested by City Chairman Nguyen Duc Chung, Mr. Juergen Boos said that the leader of the Frankfurt Book Fair will do their best to promote this plan. Accordingly, first, the Frankfurt Book Fair leadership will hold a training course for staff officers in June, 2017 that will be published soon in Vietnam.

Mr. Boos said that from now to 2021, Vietnam in general and Hanoi in particular will strengthen the presence at the Frankfurt Book Fair in the form of sending speakers to participate, to help the countries in the world known for manufacturing industry. He also noted that selecting the representative works of the Vietnam to be translated into English, German and so on.

Besides, the President of the Frankfurt Book Fair hopes that Hanoi will bring to the character in the book of the culinary culture of Vietnam, the show unique folk art.

Agreed with Juergen Boos's proposal, City Chairman Nguyen Duc Chung proposed the two sides to sign a memorandum of cooperation with the content. The first is to accelerate the training by inviting experts from Germany to Vietnam to teach. In addition, Hanoi will select the staff, outstanding experts to Germany to learn. Second, Hanoi will register a booth at the Frankfurt Book Fair. Third, in collaboration with relevant stakeholders to participate in missions performing arts and culture at the book. Fourth, the leaders supported the Book Fair so that Hanoi can order the books to be translated.
