Hanoi to hold various cultural activities to welcome upcoming Tet festival
The capital city will organise numerous cultural festivities, art exchanges, song and dance performances to welcome the upcoming Lunar New Year (Tet) festival as well as the 87th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of Vietnam, according to the municipal Department of Culture and Sports.
This year’s annual - TET Fair 2017 - will be officially kicked off on January 18 at the Vietnam Culture and Arts Exhibition Centre in Hanoi, with new events and newcomers joining the staples of the weeklong annual spring tradition.
The consumer goods fair that is chaired by the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports, will take place January 18-24 at the Vietnam Exhibition Centre for Culture and Arts.
Particularly, during the event, fairgoers will have the opportunity to enjoy the markets that feature items most often use during Tet such as traditional five-fruit trays, offerings to worship Tao Quan (the Kitchen God) and other time-honoured gifts.
The fair will be arranged into a wide variety of interesting markets such as Five Fruit, Ong Do (Calligraphy), Gift, Tet Greeting, Tet Specialty, Consumer, Good Luck, Ceramics and Silk.
Fun outdoor and warm-hearted holiday celebrations are set to transpire throughout the Hanoi metropolitan areas. On January 27, art performances will take place at the Ly Thai To statue square, Ha Dong District Cultural Centre and My Dinh Stadium.
Moreover, a selection of award winning films will be screened at the National Cinema Centre from January 24-February 7. Entry is free to all.
A festival of lights will transpire from January 12-25 on the seven streets of Trang Tien, Hang Bai, Ngo Quyen, Ba Trieu, Phan Dinh Phung, Thanh Nien, and Dien Bien Phu.
Director of Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports To Van Dong said that there will be no fireworks displays on January 27 (New Year’s Eve),but he has requested pagodas ring bells to usher the Lunar New Year.
