Hanoi to operate more coaches serving 2026 New Year holidays

The number of passengers passing through the bus stations during these peak periods is expected to increase by about 250%-350% compared to normal days.

THE HANOI TIMES — The Hanoi Transport Station Joint Stock Company will operate additional coach services during the 2026 New Year holidays to meet surging travel demand, which is estimated to rocket 350% from normal days. 

The company’s Director Pham Manh Hung said that passenger numbers are expected to reach around 30,000 per day during the peak period, requiring extra backup coaches.

At three major bus stations in Hanoi, including Giap Bat, Gia Lam and My Dinh, peak days are expected to see between 5,000 and 22,000 passengers daily, which means a 250%-350% increase from normal, with an estimated 500-900 coach trips per day. 

Given this situation, the company has planned around 200 additional coaches, which will be required to manage passenger overflow during the New Year and Tet holidays across its stations.

Hung said to provide better services, his company has asked for support from the Hanoi Department of Public Security and the municipal Department of Construction in traffic management, ensuring security, traffic order and safety. In addition, Hanoi Transport Station JSC has ordered stations to work with transport services providers to sell e-tickets, in compliance with the regulations on ticket pricing.

Ensuring traffic order and safety

The Hanoi Department of Construction in mid-December issued a document requesting transport businesses to enhance traffic order and safety measures during the upcoming holidays.

The department has also announced a hotline to receive reports of violations, illegal ticket price increases, congestion and traffic insecurity during the 2026 New Year.

Accordingly, people can report all transportation activities via hotline numbers: 0932.231.683 (Leader of the Hanoi Department of Construction), 0972.188.666 (Head of Transport Management Department), 0989.811.118 (Head of Transport Inspectorate).

Meanwhile, the Traffic Inspectorate is asked to coordinate with the Hanoi Police to increase patrols and strictly handle violations such as illegally picking up and dropping off passengers, fighting for passengers, among others.

The management boards of bus stations are tasked with closely supervising coaches to curb overloading and overcharging of passengers, coordinating with the police forces and transport inspectors to prevent illegal transport of explosives, flammable items and counterfeit or banned goods.

Relevant units must add more medical staff, vehicles and supplies to maximize response capabilities, particularly for emergency treatment of traffic accident victims, minimizing casualties.

Vietnamese people will enjoy a four-day public holiday from January 1 to January 4, 2026, for the New Year and nine days from February 14 to February 22, 2026, in celebration of traditional Tet.
