Hanoi Party Committee has issued the resolution on the city`s tourism development for the period 2016 - 2020, which is considered to be the strategic orientation to make tourism more sustainable and a key industry.
Director of the municipal Department of Tourism Do Dinh Hong shared about intentions and determinations to bring the city's "smokeless industry" develop strongly.
Director of Hanoi Department of Tourism Do Dinh Hong said in the period 2007-2015, the city's tourism recorded annual growth of more than 10 percent in tourist arrivals. The growth rate of international holidaymakers is about 14 percent per year while that of domestic visitors averages 9.2 percent.
According to the municipal Department of Tourism, Hanoi welcomed nearly 19.7 million travellers in 2015, including 3.3 million international tourists, accounting for 40 percent of foreign visitors to Vietnam.
Most foreign tourists come from China, the Republic of Korea, Japan, the United Kingdom, Australia, the United States, France, Germany and Malaysia. About 80 percent of international visitors to Hanoi were holidaying with the remainder coming for business.
The local tourism industry earned nearly 55 trillion VND (2.47 billion USD) in 2015 and 31.3 trillion VND (1.4 billion USD) during the first six months of this year.
The resolution on the municipal tourism development from 2016 to 2020 identifies clearly to build high-quality, professional and concentrated tourism sector.
Particularly, the municipal tourism should be attached to the developing of culture, creating a foundation to develop various types of travel.
The city will review the planning for tourism development till 2020 and orientation to 2030, make the planning for 6 travel clusters, including: The Hanoi Central; Suoi Hai - Ba Vi; Huong Son - Quan Son; Soc Mountain - Dong Quan Lake; Van Tri - Co Loa; Ha Dong and the vicinity.
Besides, Hanoi's tourism will develop turning the Ba Vi - Suoi Hai tourist resort into a national tourist zone by 2030, conservate, invest and develop the traditional villages into attractive destinations for international tourists including Bat Trang ceramics, Van Phuc silk, and Duong Lam ancient village.
Hanoi targets to welcome 30 million visitors, including 5.7 million international passengers, tourism growth rate will reach from 8-10% annually, and gaining 120,000 billion VND from tourism revennue.
