Speaking at the meeting, Minister Nguyen Xuan Cuong stressed that agriculture, farmers and rural areas play important roles in developing the socio-economy of the capital city in particular and the country in general.
The minister proposed that Hanoi city should make out to build its agriculture becoming the top among sectors not only in the capital but also in the center of the Red River Delta.
Addressing the conference, the municipal Party Secretary Hoang Trung Hai said that the city's agricultural growth in 2016 reached 2.21%, higher to the national average rate.
However, Secretary Hai told that this number is lower than set target of 3.5-4%, and at present, the city's agricultural, forestry and food products have meet about 69% of local demand.
According to the Secretary, although the average agricultural income is 239 million VND per ha, rural labourers still are not rich.
He noted that Hanoi has 3.7 million people living in rural areas, of which only 27% of them work in agriculture and have income from the sector.
Secretary Hai stressed that Hanoi always defines the restructuring of agriculture as the key task of the city.
In the locality, about 1 million agricultural workers are expected to shift in agricultural sector. The market of agricultural services is very open, thus helping farmers improve their added value and productivity, he added.
Secretary Hai also said that the city targets to raise the proportion of high-tech agricultural products up 35-40%.
