Austrian-American composer Arnold Schönberg- who developed the twelve-tone technique, an influential compositional method of manipulating an ordered series of all twelve notes in the chromatic scale - and his students, Alban Berg and Anton Webern, are considered to be the most influential composers of the 20th century.
Schönberg was associated with the expressionist movement in German poetry and art, and the leader of the Second Viennese School. Jewish by origin, Schoenberg was targeted by the Nazi Party, which labeled his works as degenerate music and forbade them from being published. He immigrated to the United States in 1933, becoming an American citizen in 1941.
In addition to the exhibition “Arnold Schönberg and The New Viennese school” that will last until July 13, the Austrian Embassy in Hanoi will also organize some concerts performing works by the aforementioned composers, with the participation of artists from the Vietnam Symphony Orchestra, Vietnam National Academy of Music and Schubert in a Mug (SiaM) with the direction of Japanese conductor Honna Tetsuji.
The exhibition and concerts are open to the public at Lobby E, National Library of Vietnam at No 31 Trang Thi Street, Hoan Kiem District, Hanoi.
