Hanoi’s leaders see off armed forces recruits

One-third of the city’s military and police recruits are university graduates.

Hanoi's top leaders, including Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee Bui Thi Minh Hoai and Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Tran Sy Thanh, visited the city's newly conscripted recruits on February 13 as they prepared to begin their two-year military service.

The ceremony this morning was attended by officials from the Ministry of National Defense, Ministry of Public Security, the Hanoi Capital Command, and local authorities.

This year, more than 4,400 young people in all 30 districts and town across Hanoi have joined the army and police forces. The number includes 84% for the military and the rest for the police, representing an increase of 11% in voluntary enlistment compared to 2024.

The selection and enlistment process in Hanoi is conducted fairly, transparently, and in accordance with the law. To ensure recruitment targets are met in 2025, the Hanoi Capital Command worked on the issues and helped raise public awareness of military service obligations.

This year, the qualifications of the recruits have improved, with 57% of them classified as health levels 1 and 2, 65% holding high school diplomas, and 26% having university or college degrees, supporting the goal of building a modern, efficient military force.

The new enlistees beamed with pride and anticipation as they were about to embark on their sacred duty to defend the nation.

Dong Da District Chairman Le Tuan Dinh expressed his confidence in the new soldiers and urged them to honor the district’s rich historical legacy, including the spirit of the Ngoc Hoi-Dong Da Victory over the Qing invaders and the traditions of the Temple of Literature, the country’s first university that highlights Vietnam’s quintessence of education.

Secretary Bui Thi Minh Hoai and Chairman Tran Sy Thanh encouraged the recruits to uphold the heroic traditions of the capital, adapt quickly to their new roles, and master modern military technology. They urged them to strive for Party membership, professional growth, and excellence.

Recruits are eager to join the army.

The city focused on supporting recruits’ families and assisting discharged soldiers with reintegration through career counseling and stable employment.

Following the ceremony, the recruits departed for nine units, including eight under the Ministry of National Defense and one under the Hanoi Police.
