Hanoi's secondary school enrollments suddenly increase

The education sector in the capital city is trying to cope with a sudden increase in the number of students entering secondary school this year.

According to the city's Department of Education and Training, there has been an increase of 22,000 students who will enter sixth grade this September compared to last year.

Dong Da District expects an increase of about 1,600 students over last year. Head of the district's Education and Training, Nguyen Duy Long, said the district would need 36 more classrooms to maintain a student density of 45 per class.

As a last resort to create more space, permission could be sought from the city's Department of Education and Training to put more seventh, eighth and ninth grade students into one class, Long said.
