Hoi An shines in Cosmopolitan’s list of most popular gap year destinations

Hoi An in Quang Nam province of Vietnam has been ranked 15th among the 19 most popular gap year destinations, based on Instagram hashtags, according to a list released by Cosmopolitan, a international fashion magazine for women.
“Vietnam's Hoi An is popular amongst backpackers, which might be why it makes up one of the most popular #gapyear posts on Instagram,” Cosmopolitan wrote.
New York tops the list, followed by Sydney, Bali, Rome, Paris, Melbourne, London, Venice, Bangkok, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Milan, Siem Reap.
Earlier, Hoi An has been named among the world’s 10 stunning holiday ideas for 2019 that will inspire you to live the way you’d like to, according to a list released by Elle, a worldwide lifestyle magazine of French origin that focuses on fashion, beauty, health, and entertainment.
Elle advises travelers that Hoi An, arguably Vietnam’s most underrated and marvelous city, is a melting pot of architecture, history and culture. Dating back to the 15th and 19th century, the port-city has a statuesque-ancient-town vibe.
“From ornate Buddhist monasteries to the iconic Japanese Covered Bridge and from the bustling Riverside market to the tranquil old town, Hoi An has it all,” Elle wrote.
In 2017, Hoi An received 3.2 million tourists, a year-on-year increase of 21.66%, according to Quang Nam province's Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, including1.78 million foreigners and 1.44 million nationals. As many as 2.38 million tourists visited Hoi An Ancient Town, up 28.16%, and 400,000 went to Cu Lao Cham Island.
