Lotus Festival 2018 themed “Legend of a Flower” will be held at Hue High School in the center of Hue city from June 29 to July 1.
The information was announced by the Thua Thien-Hue Department of Tourism. The festival aims to build the image of Hue as the festival capital of Vietnam, and promotes local tourism.
Accordingly, the festival is divided into four parts. Firstly, the main stage, designed as a pond of lotus flowers, will host a show of Ao Dai with lotus designs from famous fashion designers in the city.
Secondly, there will be space for cuisine with booths designed in bamboo and lotus leaves and flowers, where dishes made from lotus will be introduced by local cuisine artists known for their sophisticated cooking techniques.
Thirdly, there will be a photo exhibition on the lotus, with those exhibited being auctioned at the end of the festival. Some of the proceeds will go to the photographer while the remainder will go to a fund supporting the city’s poor.
The last part features a number of traditional crafts that use images of the lotus, such as paintings, embroidery, and conical hats.
The Lotus Festival 2018 will diversify activities available for visitors and encourage longer stays. It will also create an opportunity for tourism businesses to introduce their products and services and connect with local and foreign tourists.
Lotus flower holds a special place in Vietnamese people's hearts, their culture and history. The lotus is Vietnam’s national flower, every part of the lotus plant is valued for its elegance, medicinal qualities and culinary properties.
Lotus season begins in April and ends in July, when flowers fully bloom and yield mature seeds. During that time, large crowds of people often gather around the ponds to gaze at the beautiful flowers.
