Huong, Dung bag HTV most favorite singer awards

Van Mai Huong and Ho Trung Dung have won the Most Favourite Female and Male Singer awards respectively for the second consecutive time at this year`s HCM City Television Awards.

More than 12,500 fans voted for Huong. "The highest number of votes which I received proves that the audience always follows me," she said in tears, after winning the award on Saturday night, adding that she would keep going in her career to avoid disappointing her fans.

The 20-year-old singer was the runner-up at the second season of Viet Nam Idol in 2010. A year later, her first solo Neu Nhu Anh Den (If You Come), a pop song with sweet lyrics about love, became a hit among the youth.

Last year, she became the youngest artist to receive the HTV Award.

Meanwhile, Dung received 8,600 votes from his fans. The teacher-turned-singer rose to fame in 2009 when he released his debut album Hoai Niem (Nostalgia).

Since then, he has become very popular with his renditions of pop, jazz and romantic songs composed by veterans such as Viet Anh and Duc Huy.

The HTV Awards, launched by HTV and Dong Tay Promotion in 2006, awards performers who have contributed the most to the development of the channel during the year in the categories of TV series, music and theatre.
This year's contest also saw over 9,500 votes being cast for cai luong (reformed opera) performer Phuong Loan who has been performing for more than 20 years.

Loan won the award for the Most Favourite Female Cai Luong Artist, while veteran artist Tan Giao was awarded the title of Most Favourite Male Cai Luong Artist.

Comedien Hoai Linh was voted as the Most Favourite Theatre Performer.

The Most Favourite TV Serial Actor and Actress awards went to Huy Khanh and Ngoc Lan respectively.

Khanh won over the TV audience by playing a man who falls in love with his enemy's daughter in Yeu Trong Han Thu (Love and Hatred), while the young and beautiful Lan portrayed a miserable mother and wife who was betrayed by her husband in Thuyen Giay (Paper Ship).

Both films have been produced by M&T Pictures.

The award for the Most Favourite Supporting Actor and Actress in TV Serials went to Minh Luan and comedienne Phi Phun respectively.

The winner in each category won an HTV Cup and VND30 million, or US$1,430, in cash.
