Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung received Deputy Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Mitsuhiro Furusawa in Hanoi on June 12 during his working visit to Vietnam. The Prime Minister emphasised that Vietnam hopes to increase cooperation with the IMF.
At the reception, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung said the IMF has long backed Vietnam, particularly in policy consultation and technical supports.
Vietnam’s development goal is a rapid and sustainable socio-economic growth with stable macro-economics, improved social welfare and reduced poverty. To achieve this goal, the Vietnamese government has been making efforts to carry out its defined key policies, focusing on completing market economy institutions, accelerating global integration, and economic restructuring, the Prime Minister added.
He affirmed that the implementation of this reform has gained initial successes.
Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Managing Director Mitsuhiro Furusuwa congratulated Vietnam on its socio-economic progresses, sustaining macro-economic stability and improving local livelihoods, and achieving the United Nations millennium development goals ahead of schedule, particularly goal of poverty reduction.
"Achieving the results are thanks to efforts of the Government and people as a whole. I believe Vietnam will reach robust mid-term growth" - said Mitsuhiro Furusawa.
Furusuwa said that Vietnam has a clear and sound vision of socio-economic growth. He recommended the country should take advantage of the current condition to carry out restructuring of its mechanisms, particularly fiscal and credit policies, as well as the bank and state-run sectors.
The Deputy Managing Director appreciated the outcomes of joint projects between Vietnam and the IMF in recent years and highlighted that the organisation is willing to continue supporting Vietnam, especially with policy consultation, technical assistance and capacity building.
