Improving teaching the mother tongue for overseas Vietnamese teachers

The State Committee on Overseas Vietnamese Affairs (COVA) and the Ministry of Education and Training jointly opened the 4th training course for overseas Vietnamese teachers from 13 countries and territories in Hanoi from August 7 - 21.

More than 50 overseas Vietnamese teachers from 13 countries and territories are participating in the training course in Hanoi from August 7 - 21.

At the seminar, delegates mentioned on textbooks for Vietnamese teaching and the teaching the mother tongue to Vietnamese expatriates in some countries.
Deputy Chairman of COVA Tran Duc Mau affirmed that that the Vietnamese is very important for the overseas Vietnamese community.
He said teaching the mother tongue to Vietnamese expatriates is one of the major concerns of the Party, State, Government and Ministry of Foreign Affairs to maintain the language among the overseas Vietnamese community.
Nguyen Thi Ngoc Mai - a Vietnamese teacher in Taiwan, said the 2nd and 3rd generation of Vietnamese in Taiwan who are eager to learn their native language through the combined exchanges and cultural languages, thus maintaining the national identity of Vietnam.
During the course, the trainees have an opportunity to share experience and join fact-finding tours to study Vietnamese culture and history.
A workshop was organised as part of the programme to highlight the advantages as well as the difficulties in teaching Vietnamese and promoting the country’s culture and history to expatriates.
