Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh’s official visit to Estonia, the first since diplomatic relations were established in 1992, has opened up a new chapter to the relationship through cooperation in digital transformation, technology, and cultural exchange.
Hosted by Estonian Prime Minister Kirsti Michal from June 5 to 7, the visit marks a significant step toward deeper Vietnam-Estonia relations.
The main focus of the visit is cooperation in the digital economy, with discussions and Prime Minister Chinh’s visit to the E-Estonia Briefing Center to explore Estonia’s globally recognized e-government system, renowned for its efficiency and innovation.
The two sides discussed ways to adopt Estonia’s expertise in cybersecurity and smart logistics to advance Vietnam’s digital transformation, offering a vision for modernizing governance and infrastructure.
The prime minister also met with Estonian firms, including Bolt, 5.0 Robotics, and Cybernetica, to discuss technology transfer and economic opportunities. Bolt, an Estonian multinational that provides ride-hailing, micromobility rentals, food and grocery delivery, and carsharing services, proposed launching ride-hailing and delivery services in Vietnam, while 5.0 Robotics offered to supply computer numerical control (CNC) machines and train local technicians, signaling potential advancements in Vietnam’s industrial sector.
During the visit, PM Chinh and his spouse Le Thi Bich Tran, and the high-ranking delegation toured Tallinn’s Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its medieval architecture, and visited the Arvo Pärt Center, which is named after the Estonian composer, one of the world’s most influential contemporary composers.
Also during the visit, Lady Le Thi Bich Tran offered a gift to Estonian PM Kristen Michal’s spouse, Evelin Oras: a mosaic crafted from 2,000 fabric scraps by ten disabled artisans in five days, which honors Vietnam’s silk heritage, promotes sustainability, and showcases the resilience of people with disabilities.
