Indochinese trilateral summit to be hosted soon

Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia will prioritize the effective connection of their economies in the Indochina peninsula.

Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia will soon host the 12th trilateral summit on the cooperative development of the three nations on the Indochina peninsula, the prime ministers of these countries agreed at a meeting on December 14.

Vietnam's Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and his counterparts from Laos and Cambodia affirmed that the three governments will accelerate the implementation of the action plan to connect the economies of Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia until 2030.

The prime ministers said that the three governments would have regular meetings to discuss and resolve arising issues from the mutual cooperation.

The PMs said that the friendship and unity among Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia would stay strong and develop comprehensively despite global and regional uncertainties.

They said each of the three nations must develop a self-reliant, resilient economy that integrates into the global community.

The prime ministers agreed that Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia would prioritize the effective connection of their economies in the Indochina peninsula.

Vietnam Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Lao Prime Minister Phankham Viphavanh discussed regional and global issues and congratulated Cambodia on successfully chairing ASEAN in 2022.

For his part, Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen thanked Vietnam's support, which helped the Cambodian government fulfill the tasks of the ASEAN 2022 chairmanship.

The prime ministers stressed that the three governments will always side with each other in dealing with regional and global issues, thus promoting the role of ASEAN to the international communities.

Vietnamese prime minister Chinh said that Vietnam will support the Lao government in its missions as the ASEAN chair in 2024.

The three government leaders also spoke highly of the activities and exchanges to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Vietnam-Laos diplomatic relations and the 55th anniversary of Vietnam-Cambodia diplomatic relations.

They said the activities have helped raise people's awareness, especially young generations in the three countries, of preserving and developing trilateral friendship and unity.

The meeting of the three prime ministers was held on the sidelines of the ASEAN-EU Summit.

This was also the first meeting of the three prime ministers since the Covid-19 pandemic was under control.
