Japan provides disaster relief to Vietnam central province hit by severe floods

Since October 16, 2020, as consequences of tropical depressions, torrential downpour has returned and overlapping floods have resulted in heavy losses to human lives and production in the area.

The Japanese government through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has decided to provide disaster relief goods to the people of Thua Thien Hue province, including 50 water purifiers and 250 plastic sheets, in order to help people in the flood-hit areas overcome the consequences of natural disasters and resume normal life.

On behalf of the Government of Vietnam, the Central Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control - Viet Nam Disaster Management Authority will receive the above goods and deliver them to the flood-ridden people in Thua Thien-Hue province.

These aid goods were transferred without delay from Japan and will arrive at Danang airport in two batches, the first at 17h30 of October 19, 2020.

The Central Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control - Vietnam Disaster Management Authority is working expeditiously with the Thua Thien-Hue Provincial Commanding Committee of Natural Disaster Prevention and Control, Search and Rescue to bring relief goods to people in the disaster area as soon as possible.

Since early October 2020, torrential rain brought about by storms No. 6 and 7 (international known as Linfa and Nangka) have caused severe river floods in the coastal Central of Vietnam. Over 7 million people in the area have been affected and thousands of hectares of rice and crops have been damaged.

Since October 16, 2020, as consequences of tropical depressions, torrential downpour has returned and overlapping floods have resulted in heavy losses to human lives and production in the area.

Given serious aftermaths caused by tropical depressions and floods, the Party and the Government of Vietnam have been expediting efforts and measures in overcoming the consequences and mitigate negative impacts on the disaster-ridden people.

Japanese Prime Minister Suga Yoshihide said at a joint press meeting in Hanoi that the Japanese government will provide urgency materials to support Vietnam to handle serious damages caused by heavy rains in the central region.
