The Japanese Government will relax visa regulations for citizens from five countries, including Vietnam, in a bid to attract more tourists to Japan in the coming time, the local Yomiuri newspaper said on March 30.
The plan, which targets visitors from China, Indonesia, the Philippines, Russia and Vietnam, will be decided upon at a meeting on Japanese tourism development on March 30. Prime Minister Shinzo Abe will attend.
Japan welcomed 19,470 million international tourists in 2015, including 5.61 million from the aforesaid countries (28.4 percent).
Under the tourism promotion plan, the Japanese Government will pay special attention to potential markets, improve its tourism climate and ease visa regulations.
Japan will also increase the number of areas with free WiFi access and allow popular public transport services to receive online orders from foreign tourists.
The country aims to greet 5 million tourists on cruises by 2020.
