Major General Katsuki Takada from the Japan Ground Self-Defence Force’s Staff Office briefed Lieut. Gen. Nguyen Quoc Khanh, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army at a meeting in Hanoi on January 19.
The guest noted his belief that with the consensus reached by leaders of Vietnam as well as the two armies, Vietnam and Japan will see pragmatic benefits, including in defence ties.
For his part, Khanh described the results of the consultation as a foundation for enhanced collaboration between the two armies, especially in UN peacekeeping missions.
Lauding Japan’s effective support to Vietnam in bomb and mine clearance, the general said he hopes the two sides will step up their affiliations in this field in the time ahead.
He suggested Japan send its military students to Vietnam to take part in international training courses and learn Vietnamese at the country’s military schools.
