Japan war photographer holds Vietnam exhibition

A viscerally gripping photo exhibition entitled “The Vietnam War and Okinawa Bases” of Japanese war photographer Bunyo Ishikawa opens at the Japan Newspaper Museum in Tokyo on October 25.

Ishikawa, 76, first set foot in Vietnam in 1964. He worked as a freelance photographer accompanying both US and South Vietnamese forces for four years from 1965 and returned many times thereafter to cover various aspects of the war.

He organised the exhibition of 150 photographs to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the end of the war.

The exhibition runs through December 21.
